FAQ

Learning & reviews

Who is Furiganaize for?

Furiganaize is most useful for intermediate and advanced learners, roughly JLPT N3–N1, who can already read Japanese but still encounter unfamiliar words. Beginners can use it too: furigana makes kanji easier to read, and the wordbook grows with you.

How does spaced-repetition review work?

Every word you save enters a review schedule. Your next review is based on how well you remembered the word, so difficult words return sooner and familiar words appear less often.

Do I need to review every day?

No. If you miss a day, your words will still be waiting for you. Short, regular sessions work best, but there are no streaks to protect and no penalty for taking a break.

How do I save a word?

Select an underlined word to see its reading, definition, and JLPT level. Then choose Save word to add it to your wordbook and review queue.

Can I learn from my own content?

Yes. Paste Japanese text or import TXT files, SRT or VTT subtitles, and EPUB ebooks. You can turn news articles, stories, books, and shows into vocabulary practice.

Can I export my wordbook to Anki?

Not yet. Wordbook export, including an Anki-friendly format, is on the roadmap. Until export is available, your saved words remain in Furiganaize.

Account & privacy

Is Furiganaize free?

Yes. You can add furigana to texts up to 3,000 characters, use the full review system, and save up to 100 words for free. Pro removes the length limit and adds PDF import and an unlimited wordbook for a one-time payment.

Do I need an account?

No. Your wordbook is currently stored in this browser. Accounts and cross-device sync are planned for a future update.

What happens if I clear my browser data?

Your wordbook is stored locally in this browser. Clearing Furiganaize site data will permanently remove your saved words and review history. Cloud backup is not currently available.

Does my text leave my browser?

No. Furigana generation and dictionary lookup run locally in your browser. Text you paste is not uploaded to Furiganaize.

Are the furigana and definitions always accurate?

Automatic analysis is reliable but not perfect. Names, rare readings, and unusual compounds may be interpreted incorrectly, so double-check anything that looks unfamiliar.

Where does the dictionary data come from?

Definitions come from JMdict by the Electronic Dictionary Research and Development Group (EDRDG), used under the CC BY-SA 4.0 license. JLPT levels are unofficial community estimates.
