These Terms govern the rights, obligations and responsibilities between Elpisia ("Operator") and users of Furiganaize (the "Service").
These Terms take effect once posted on the Service or otherwise announced.
The Operator may amend these Terms within the limits of applicable law, announcing the effective date and reason at least 7 days in advance (30 days for changes disadvantageous to users).
If a user does not agree to amended Terms, they may stop using the Service and close their account. Continued use after notice constitutes acceptance of the changes.
The agreement is formed when a user agrees to these Terms and completes sign-up via email or Google account.
The Operator may require email verification; some features may be limited until verification.
Children under 14 may not sign up for the Service.
Users are responsible for managing their own account credentials (email, password) and must not let third parties use them.
The Operator is not responsible for losses arising from a user's failure to safeguard their credentials. Users must notify the Operator immediately upon noticing unauthorized use.
The Service includes: automatic furigana conversion of Japanese text (fully client-side), dictionary lookups, word saving and wordbook management, spaced-repetition (SRS) review, and file import (text, subtitles, ebooks).
The free tier applies certain limits (3,000-character conversion, 50-word wordbook, etc); the Operator may change these limits or features with prior notice as the Service evolves.
The Operator may modify, suspend or discontinue all or part of the Service for good cause, with prior notice, except where urgent (e.g. emergency maintenance) makes prior notice impracticable — in which case notice will follow after the fact.
Copyright in text a user pastes or uploads into the Service ("User Content") belongs to the user or the original rights holder.
Furigana conversion and dictionary lookups run entirely inside the user's browser; the Operator does not receive or store User Content itself on its servers. However, words, example sentences and source notes the user explicitly saves are linked to their account and stored server-side (Supabase).
Users must not submit content that infringes third-party copyright, portrait rights, or similar rights.
Intellectual property in the Service itself (design, logo, software, etc.) belongs to the Operator.
The Service uses the following third-party data: dictionary data from JMdict (provided by EDRDG, CC BY-SA 4.0 license) and the IPADIC morphological analysis dictionary (mecab-ipadic). Attribution and license terms for each follow the notices shown within the Service.
Furigana, readings, definitions and JLPT levels shown by the Service are the output of automated dictionary and morphological analysis, intended for learning reference. Proper nouns, neologisms and context-dependent readings may occasionally be misread; the Operator does not fully guarantee accuracy.
The Operator is not liable for failure to provide the Service due to force majeure, natural disaster, or causes attributable to the user.
To the extent the Service is provided free of charge, it is provided "as is" without implied warranties, to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law.
The Operator is not liable for damages arising from a user's use of the Service absent intent or gross negligence. Given the free nature of the Service, the Operator's liability may be limited to the extent permitted by applicable law.
Users may terminate the agreement (close their account) at any time by contacting the Operator at the email below. The Service does not yet offer a self-service delete button; requests are processed without undue delay.
The Operator may restrict use or terminate the agreement, after prior notice, if a user violates these Terms or interferes with Service operation.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea. Disputes arising from use of the Service are subject to the court of first instance determined under applicable law.
Effective date: These Terms take effect from July 8, 2026.
